Fundamentals of Filtration – Hydraulic Filters
What is a Hydraulic Filter?
A hydraulic filter is responsible for removing contaminants from hydraulic fluid including filtering oils, water, or other liquids. These filters are crucial in hydraulic systems prone to contamination from component wear, seal ingress, or low-quality fluids.
- Some types of Hydraulic Filters:
- Suction filters are filters that are placed before the pump to protect it from large particles and therefore have a coarse mesh.
- Pressure filters are installed after the pump to handle high-pressure contaminants and use a finer filtration media.
- Return filters are located on the return line to filter fluid before it re-enters the reservoir. These can be either full-flow or bypass filters, allowing for continuous operation even when the filter is clogged.
- Breather filters are installed on the reservoir to prevent contaminants from entering the fluid as it breathes and so filters airborne particles and moisture.
- Uses of Hydraulic Filters:
- Protect Components from Damage: Hydraulic filters, by removing particles such as dirt, metal shavings, and other contaminants from hydraulic fluid, prevent these particles from causing wear and tear on critical components like pumps, valves, and actuators.
- Extend System Life: By continuously filtering out contaminants, hydraulic filters help maintain the cleanliness of the hydraulic fluid. Clean fluid reduces the risk of abrasive wear and corrosion, thereby extending the overall lifespan of the hydraulic system.
- Improve Efficiency: Clean hydraulic fluid ensures that all moving parts operate smoothly and efficiently. This reduces friction and wear on components, leading to improved performance and efficiency of the hydraulic system.
- Enhance System Reliability and Performance: Regular filtration helps maintain optimal fluid viscosity and temperature, which are crucial for the reliable performance of hydraulic systems. This ensures that the system operates within its designed parameters
- Reduce Maintenance Costs: By preventing premature wear and system failures, hydraulic filters reduce the frequency and cost of maintenance. This leads to lower operational costs and less downtime for repairs
- Better for the Environment: Proper filtration reduces the need for frequent fluid changes, which in turn minimizes the disposal of contaminated hydraulic fluid. This supports environmental protection efforts by reducing waste.
- Fai Filtri Hydraulic Filters:
Fai Filtri hydraulic filters are known for their high-quality filtration solutions, which are designed to enhance the efficiency and longevity of hydraulic systems.
